Electric winch is the most common winch. It depends on the vehicle’s own electric power system to drive the winch.Advantages: It can be used normally in the case of a dead vehicle. It is unmatched by other winches, especially for water-rich areas. It has a simple installation and can achieve multiple positions. Installation and rapid displacement.

PTO winch, using the transfer case output power as the power source (POWER TAKE OFF), advantages: can continue to provide greater pulling force, long single use time (no heat problems), can provide multi-directional pulling force (front, rear, Even around), is the best choice for military vehicles or serious high-performance off-road. Disadvantages: The engine power must be used, that is, it cannot be used when the engine is unable to work due to water inflow, etc.; the transfer case cannot be used when it loses the driving force of the winch direction.
The hydraulic winch uses the vehicle’s power and power steering system as its power source, and uses the power steering pump to provide the source power. Advantages: Convenient installation. Because its external fixed part is basically universal, it can be interchanged even in the field. The driving force is between the electric and PTO winch, and the chance of high temperature is extremely rare. Disadvantages: Like the PTO winch, the engine driving force must be used, that is, the engine must be kept rotating, and it cannot be used once the power steering system fails (in some off-road situations, the power steering system is vulnerable to external damage).
The wheel winch is a relatively new winch system, that is, the driving force is provided by the wheel axle. The principle is to use 4 of the 6 fixing screws of most off-road wheels to fix the winch. Advantages: extremely easy to install/remove (and changing tires is a step), extremely light weight (lighter than any other winch, and will not cause fatal additional weight by the front suspension), cheap, can provide both front and rear directions pull. Disadvantages: Because its power point is the axle, the position is too low, which makes it unusable under certain conditions, and engine power must also be used.

Manual winches, which are driven by the longitudinal or circular movement of the human hand, are usually not strong due to the work done by humans.
The pneumatic winch has the same design and working principle as the hydraulic winch, but the power is changed from compressed liquid to compressed gas.
